A study of Adjustment among Prospective Teachers

 ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted to see the adjustment level of prospective teachers of Ajmer district in relation to type of Institute (Govt. and Private), gender (Male and Female), Streams (Humanities &Science) and Year (First & Second). Adjustment is an important part of the personality .The prospective teachers should have high level of adjustment as it directly linked with their efficiency of work and as a  future a professional teacher improves the quality of work favorably when the teacher is well adjusted.To measure adjustment ofCollege students Sinha and Singh ‟s Adjustment Scale (1995) was used. For this study a sample of 320 student were selected from ten Teachers training college from affiliated from M.D.S University, Ajmer(Raj.) Data for the study was collected through convenient sampling technique. No significant difference was found in Adjustment level of prospective teachers in relation to type of Institute (Govt. and Private), gender (Male and Female), Streams (Humanities &Science) and Year (First & Second). So, to be concluded, prospective teachers in relation of Govt. Institute and Private Institute are similar in their adjustment level , while Male and Female prospective teachers are having adjustment level.

Introduction

Adjustment and emotions both plays a very important role in a human’s life. A person is social human being, who lives in the society and faces every condition and situation of their life in the environment (good or bad) of his society. In a human’s life adjustment and emotions both plays a very impressive and important role. If a person can adjust very well, so his life is also very well and he adjusts in every situation (good or bad) in his life, so his adjustment level is good. And he feels like happy, joy and calm, but if a person is not doing adjust in our daily life’s situations so he can feel stress, irritating and sad, all these are types of emotions. So now we can say that if person is not doing adjust with their daily life situations so these situations affect also their emotions. (PANTH, CHAURASIA,, & GUPTA, 2015, V,5)

The meaning and definition of adjustment

Adjustment is process of interaction between our own self and our surrounding environment. Every person constantly tries to unite its self with the environment or keeps trying to be convenient towards the environment, and this is why a person changes the environment actively or passively. A person canadjust satisfactorily according to the easiness of its ability to change the environment. Like other animals, a person also needs to adjust with the environment to fulfill such requirements like physical, psychological and material. The adjustment becomes easy and satisfactory on the basis of this effectiveness of the interaction.

According to Gates and Jersild and Crow and Crow “Adjustment is the maintenance of the harmonious relationship between man and his environment”.

 According to Webster, “Adjustment is the established of a satisfactory relationship as representing harmony, conformance, adaptation or the like.”

According to Colman “Adjustment is the result of individual‟s efforts to adopt with the needs and circumstances affording the needs.”

The main areas or aspects of adjustment are the following (PANTH, CHAURASIA,, & GUPTA, 2015, V,5)

1.     Home adjustment

2.     Health adjustment

3.     Social adjustment

4.     Emotional adjustment

5.     Educational Adjustment.

Literature Review related the Adjustment

v  Gaur (2013) compared Adjustment Problems of High and Low Achievers in Higher Secondary School of Gwalior The descriptive survey method has been adopted to carry out the study. Tools used higher secondary adjustment inventory prepared by A.K. Singh and A. Sengupta has been used and applied on selected sample. The findings of this study indicate towards the importance of adjustment problems related to home, health, emotions, social, school etc.

v  Nadeem and Bhat (2014) studied Adjustment level among optional teachers in Kashmir. They inferred that male optional teachers are preferable balanced over female and in addition provincial and urban auxiliary teachers contrast fundamentally on wellbeing social, passionate and add up to alteration.

v  Moshahid (2017) studied  Adjustment among Government and Private Secondary teachers.The purpose of the present study is to identify the level of Adjustment among Government and Private Secondary teachers. He found that Government instructors have fundamentally preferable alteration level over private optional teachers.

v  Sharma (2017) assessed  the dimension of Adjustment of Guest Faculty Teachers in Government Schools .There exists critical contrast on dimension of modification, among Science and Arts Guest Faculty of Government Secondary teachers .

 

objectives

The following objectives have formulated for the present study.

1.      To compare Adjustment and Emotional Maturity among first year and second year prospective teachers.

2.      To compare Adjustment and Emotional Maturity among male and female first year and second year prospective teachers.

3.      To compare Adjustment and Emotional Maturity among prospective teachers from Humanities group and Science groups.

4.      To compare Adjustment and Emotional Maturity among prospective teachers from Government and Private teacher training institutes.

Hypotheses

1.      There will be no significant difference in Adjustment and Emotional Maturity of First year and Second year prospective teachers in Government and Private Teacher training institute

2.      There will be no significant difference in Adjustment and Emotional Maturity of male & female prospective teachers in Government and Private Teacher training institute

3.      There will be no significant difference in Adjustment and Emotional Maturity of Humanities group and science group prospective teachers in Government and Private Teacher training institute.

4.      There will be no significant difference in Adjustment and Emotional Maturity of prospective teachers from Government and Private Teacher training institute

 

METHODOLOGY

Sample

Prospective teachers enrolled in Bachelors of Education (B. Ed.) institutes of Rajasthan are the population of the study. The data for the study was collected through convenient sampling technique. The 320 Prospective teachers were selected from ten B.Ed. college from Ajmer.
